As you may know, PEG has held a number of informational forums on the issues surrounding housing and homelessness in our community.  In our outreach and research efforts, we recently found a new non-profit organization focused on finding solutions to homelessness in Spokane.  Housing and Help is producing a series of 12 educational video “episodes” looking at the causes and possible solutions to homelessness.  Gavin Cooley, long time Chief Financial Officer for the City of Spokane is the host of the videos.  The Spokane Low Income Housing Coalition and Corner Booth Media are partners in the productions.  From our discussions with the group, we believe they share PEG’s values of education, fairness and non-partisanship.

Episode 1 “How Did We Get Here” features an interview with Dr. Ed Byrnes from Eastern Washington University.  You can find it at their website www.HousingAndHelp.org.  More episodes are to follow.  A couple of future episodes will feature interviews with people working on homelessness in Houston, a city recognized for its success in reducing their homeless population.  We encourage you to take a look.

You can also look forward to a PEG forum with Housing and Help principals on Wednesday evening, September 14th.  We’ll post it on the Events page and send out a flyer on the forum soon.
